Former England boss takes Jamaica role

Former England manager Steve McClaren has made a return to international football after accepting an offer to become the new coach of Jamaica.

The 63-year-old will attempt to steer the Reggae Boyz to the 2026 World Cup, knowing that Jamaica's qualifying group will be without co-hosts USA, Canada and Mexico as they will automatically be at the finals.

McClaren succeeds Heimir Hallgrimsson in charge, the Icelander having resigned recently to take charge of Republic of Ireland, where his first opponents will be England in next month's Nations League opener in Dublin.

A poignant new documentary, meanwhile, about the man McClaren assisted and then succeeded as England manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, airs for the first time on Friday 23rd August.

Having been diagnosed with cancer, Eriksson said in January that he had a 'best case' of a year to live, and the story of his rise from a quiet Swedish town to the heights of club and international management, is told in Amazon Prime's 'Sven'.
