Ireland squad named for England clash

A surprise choice to become the new Republic of Ireland manager, Heimir Hallgrimsson faces his first test in the upcoming Nations League games against England and Greece in Dublin.

The Icelander has named his squad for both matches, leaning on assistant head coach John O'Shea for his knowledge as interim manager following Stephen Kenny's departure.

Experience defender Seamus Coleman is back while England-born Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer has earned his first call-up.

Hallgrimsson's options in attack look to be plentiful with Brighton's Evan Ferguson available again and in-form forwards such as Adam Idah of Celtic and Ipswich's Sammie Szmodics.

England's next opponents are Finland and they too have named their squad for the first international fixtures of 2024/25.

New Aberdeen wideman Topi Keskinen earns a first senior call-up.
