After the news became public on Monday evening, the Football Association have, on Tuesday morning, confirmed that former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has signed an 18-month contract to become the new manager of the England Men's national team.
The German will take over the reigns at the beginning of 2025 meaning that his objective is both straightforward and difficult at the same time, namely win the 2026 World Cup.
His focus will seemingly be firmly on the field, working with what is seen as England's best group of players for many years and taking the final step to lifting a trophy that has just eluded them in recent tournaments.
Early press reaction has seen some negativity about a non-English manager being appointed but the FA will counter that they have landed the best available coach in the current market to make that final leap.
Lee Carsley will revert to his former role with the U21s after next month's Nations League matches, his answers to questions about the senior job in the past week perhaps taking on a new light with Tuchel's contract apparently having been signed on 8 October.
