Albania will provide the first opponents of the Thomas Tuchel era as England head coach, the two sides meeting in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley in March.

Having made it to Euro 2024, Albania are now looking to reach a first ever World Cup but face a difficult task having been drawn with both England and also Serbia, a fixture that has provided controversy in the past.

Speaking to the FIFA website after the qualifying draw was made, manager Sylvinho said: "Every single match is going to be a final for us. So we have to try at least.

"We’ve got some good players, good spirit, so we have to try at least."

His side struggled to make an impression in the recent Nations League, winning two of their six matches to finish bottom of Group B1, but will be backed by passionate supporters at Wembley.

November 2021 was the last time the two nations met, England easing to a 5-0 Wembley win in a qualifier for Qatar 2022.

England will then take on Latvia, at Wembley again, in what will be the first ever meeting of the two nations.

Little will be expected of a side currently 140th in the world rankings and facing a Nations League play-off with Gibraltar after a disappointing run of results in the autumn, Latvia's solitary win coming at home to the Faroe Islands.

Italian Paolo Nicolato, formerly in charge of his country's Under-21 side, is the current coach of the Latvian side, following in the footsteps of ex-Yeovil and Bristol City boss Gary Johnson and Southampton legend Marians Pahars.
