Lee Carsley signed off as England's interim senior manager in style on Sunday as his side put five second-half goals past the Republic of Ireland to top their Nations League group and earn promotion back to the top-tier of the competition.
England shrugged off the number of call-offs from Carsley's original squad for this month's fixtures and, as in Athens on Thursday, displayed an attacking verve that belied the absence of the likes of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer.
A dogged Ireland side took the game to half-time without conceding but were undone by what manager Heimir Hallgrimsson called 'six minutes of madness' after the break, starting with a red card for Liam Scales as he brought down Jude Bellingham in the box.
Harry Kane had fashioned the opening for Bellingham and the returning England captain duly netted from the spot before quickfire strikes from Anthony Gordon and Conor Gallagher secured the three points.
Both Gordon and Gallagher were celebrating their first England goals and they were joined in that regard by Jarrod Bowen and debutant Taylor Harwood-Bellis as the Wembley crowd were treated to two more for the home side and the perfect send-off for Carsley.
