Low-key start for Southgate's successor

England return to action in the autumn for a Nations League campaign against the Republic of Ireland, Greece and Finland.

Gareth Southgate's successor as national team manager will have a low-key start to the job after relegation to League B of the Nations League in 2022.

That marked the low point of Southgate's time in charge as England failed to win a single game from six against Hungary, Italy and Germany.

Although any appointment will, of course, be front page news, the new manager may be grateful for the chance to settle into their surroundings without too much hype as the focus returns to club football over the autumn months.

The FA may face a difficult sell for the home games. Tickets for the visit of Finland on Tuesday 10th September are on sale now at the Wembley website.

Currently second in the betting to take over from Southgate, Lee Carsley remains in his under-21 role at present and his side will be in action at Luton's Kenilworth Road ground on Monday 9th September.

Austria are the opponents with tickets priced at £15 for adults (£10 for Luton season ticket holders) and £7.50 for concessions (£5 for Luton season ticket holders).
