Thomas Tuchel takes charge of England for the first time on Friday evening in front of a sell-out Wembley crowd for the opening 2026 World Cup qualifier against Albania.
Back-to-back home fixtures give Tuchel the chance to make a winning start to his reign and take the first steps along the 18-month road that the Football Association have calculated will end on July 19 next year at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
That is where the World Cup final takes place with Tuchel having been named as Gareth Southgate's permanent successor with the sole aim of England being of the two teams involved in that game.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Albania match, Tuchel sought to draw what he hopes will be a contrast between England's performances in Southgate's final tournament in charge, last summer's Euros, and what he expects from his team.
He said: "Watching the Euros I felt tension and pressure on the shoulders of the players and they were playing not to lose.
"I want us to play with excitement and the hunger and desire to win...and the acceptance of failure is part of it, especially in football."
